Southwest Airlines is ramping up its service to Mexico for the upcoming spring season, catering to the increased demand from travelers seeking sun-soaked getaways. Beginning March 8, 2025, Southwest will launch a new weekly Saturday flight from Nashville, Tennessee, to San José del Cabo (Los Cabos), a renowned spring break destination known for its stunning beaches and vibrant nightlife. This addition will enhance Southwest’s existing non-stop route to Cancún, another popular spot among spring breakers.
Simultaneously, the airline will debut a Saturday flight service connecting Sacramento, California, with Puerto Vallarta, a coastal city celebrated for its beautiful bay and cultural attractions.
Southwest is distinguished by its customer-centric policies, including free checked bags and no change fees, providing travelers with unparalleled flexibility to adjust their plans without incurring extra costs. This approach sets Southwest apart from many competitors, who often impose additional fees for changes.
Travelers can book flights on these new routes through April 7, 2025, aligning perfectly with spring break schedules. According to Allianz Partners, which analyzed over 3.4 million spring break flight itineraries, Mexico was the top international destination for U.S. travelers in 2024. Cancún led the list, followed by San José del Cabo (Los Cabos) and Puerto Vallarta.
In terms of air travel to Cancún, American Airlines and United Airlines lead the market with over 100 weekly flights each, while Southwest is a strong competitor. Dallas emerges as the top U.S. city for seats to Cancún, offering 34,332 seats per month and the highest number of operations with 186 flights. This robust connectivity underscores Dallas’s pivotal role in facilitating travel to Mexico’s most coveted destinations.
